Plus– it is often easier for your horse to understand what to do and how to move their body when you’re not sitting on their back muscles!
“I’m just finishing Amelia’s Groundwork course which was more helpful than months of lessons in person. It’s been the best money I’ve spent since having horses!! Amelia deserves 10 stars as far as I’m concerned! She has helped the connection with my horse on the ground and in the saddle.“
-Stacey, Groundwork Masterclass Graduate
Introducing the Dressage Groundwork Masterclass
This is a system that really works to get you unstuck and moving up the levels! If you’re not doing groundwork with your horse, then you’re missing a very important element of your training!
Are you stuck? Is your horse…
If you’re feeling frustrated, so is your horse.
If your horse just does not seem to get what you want…
Literally all of these issues can (and should) be resolved from the ground.
Teach the aids from the ground first and I guarantee your riding will be easier!
I hear you! I would rather ride too – but here’s the thing. It is actually less stressful for your horse (and for you) to fix your training issues and introduce new concepts from the ground. For your horse, it’s easier for them to engage their topline and bend without you sitting on their back! For you, you can actually see what your horse is doing and your aids are more effective. With groundwork you will avoid confrontations and evasions under saddle because your horse will understand how to respond to the aids.
Here are a few movements that you MUST teach from the ground first:
(I’ve worked with hundreds of horses, and I promise, teaching this from the ground will make it easier for you and your horse and save you time)
Bend
It’s way easier to teach your horse to bend in the body without you sitting on them because it is easier for them to balance and lift their back muscles.
Round
Teach your horse to accept the bit and “go round” before you even get on! Believe me – you will save you and your horse a lot of confusion and frustration!
How to respond to your aids
Teach your horse exactly how to respond to the leg and rein aids from the ground. You will feel an immediate change when riding.
Rein Back
The rein back is NOT a natural movement for horses. It is way easier to teach the aids from the ground and physically, without the weight of a rider, it’s easier for your horse too!
Leg-yield
Sideways movements are not natural for horses. Teaching it from the ground is easier for the horse because they don’t have to manage the weight of the rider.
Shoulder-in
Shoulder-in is about getting your horse even and strong on both hind legs.
Square Halts
The great thing about working on halts from the ground is that you can see when the halt is square and instantly reward your horse!
Piaffe
This really is the pinnacle of Dressage! And you MUST teach it from the ground. When you break it down and teach it step by step, your horse will learn to piaffe with ease!
“I love groundwork now! I never did it before because I was told that only people who are too lazy to ride do groundwork. Today, after doing groundwork, my horse started going forward and became really soft in my hands. I loved the feeling! Going forward this is the secret. 😁” Thanks from Germany.”
-Christine, Groundwork Masterclass Graduate
It’s about establishing a level of trust that makes your horse want to move towards pleasing you, rather than misbehaving. It’s about awakening the innate knowledge and athleticism that your horse already has to perform, in a way that is methodical, compassionate, and kind. The Dressage Groundwork Masterclass will give you all the tools you need to bring out the innate athleticism and ability inside your horse. It’s a consistent, proven system that works and will improve your riding…
Introducing
“My biggest takeaway which was quite an epiphany is that you can train your horse on the ground and when you get on they know it. Its magic. I taught my horse how to do turn on the forehand from the ground using techniques you showed me. It worked!”
– Sandra, Groundwork Masterclass Graduate
“If we haven’t met before, hi I’m Amelia!
My dream has always been to train and ride Grand Prix horses. But when I first started riding I was FORCED to learn groundwork because I got the difficult horses that no one else could ride or handle. I got the horses that bucked, bolted, reared, or had never been ridden before. If I didn’t learn to establish communication through groundwork before getting on I would have gotten seriously hurt. Groundwork allowed me to get through to these misunderstood horses. Groundwork truly saved my life.
With groundwork I am able to establish communication and trust with a horse – before I ever get on! I’ve developed a unique system where I’ve learned to train pretty much all the Dressage movements from the ground. I’ve worked with thousands of students and horses, and one thing that I always recommend and that gets my students big results is groundwork.
Physically and mentally, Dressage is hard for horses, and groundwork makes it easier on your horse and for you!
Inside the Dressage Groundwork Masterclass, I’ve distilled my groundwork techniques into a simple and actionable plan that you can follow to train your horse up the levels!”

Yes! There are many sections within this course dedicated specifically to young horse development. While some they might not be ready for right now, you can work on the pre-requisites with them and shape their current skills. Using groundwork to develop your young horse is a fantastic way to help them learn the aids in an less taxing and less stressful way.
No! This program works for horses of all ages. While there are some advanced exercises that would be too much for an older horse with physical limitations, there are an abundance of other exercises they will benefit from to help their training and to improve their suppleness and topline.
The great part about groundwork is that once you learn the exercises you can easily incorporate them into your routine without adding much time. That said, consistency is key when working with horses. If you only work with your horse 1-2 times a week you will still see results by joining this course. But the more you work with your horse the better they will be, we recommend 4-5 times a week. Remember though, this is quality over quantity. Every session doesn’t have to be a long one (sometimes it’s only 10 min!) and it’s important to listen to your horse.
This course is designed for horses and riders of ALL levels. Whether you have a young, old, green, or advanced horse. Whether you’ve never done groundwork before or you’re ready to learn how to long line and train Piaffe in hand, this course is for you.
You should still join! This course is chalk full of valuable information that you have LIFETIME access to! So you can go through it whenever you want and at whatever pace you want. Enrollment is only open once per year.
Yes! You can ask questions at any time in our learning platform or face to face during the LIVE Office Hours. You can also submit your groundwork and riding videos for individual feedback and support.
In addition, we have a private Facebook group for 8 weeks where you get access to myself and my team to ask questions, get advice, participate in mini challenges and more!
No. You don’t need to be on Facebook, but I would recommend it. You can access all of the educational content outside of Facebook. But to take advantage of all aspects of the course we recommend joining Facebook! It is a wonderful, supportive, and safe community that allows you to ask questions, share videos, successes, and more! If you don’t have Facebook, I would suggest joining just for this course.
It’s up to you and what you’re looking for! Strides is fantastic and is designed to offer you a wealth of knowledge over multiple topics and provide support over a longer period of time.
The Dressage Groundwork Masterclass is a deep dive into using your skills on the ground to improve your horse handling and riding. This Course also offers LIVE events throughout each week, so you get more time ‘with’ me and the team for the course period.
