Get to know Strides Member Sara

Strides Member of the Month for September!
Each month, we showcase one of our Strides Student Members, so everyone can get to know each other a little! This month, we’ve chosen Sara Tylosky!

Where are you from?:

The U.S., but I live between Mexico and Florida

How long have you been a member of Strides?:

4 months

What’s your favorite part of Strides?:

Being able to connect with the community, have the individual sessions with your videos and being privileged to get a lot of learning materials!

How has Strides helped you?:

Amelia and her team are very good at logically breaking things down. I only started riding dressage about 7 years ago and wanted to speed up my learning, even though I have a wonderful trainer and we are good friends too!

What kind of horses are your favorite?:

I love all horses! Currently I bought a PRE about one year ago and he’s very sweet, although spooks a lot more than I thought he would and we are working on that! I don’t have a favorite horse because they are all so unique and wonderful.

What’s your goal for 2023?:

Since I just bought this horse a year ago and he knew zero about dressage, my goal is to get to level 2 by the end of this year. My trainer is also showing my horse at level 2 and she is an inspiration to me! She is from Holland and has been riding for 40 years!

What is something unique about you, your journey or your horse?:

I have lived on 4 continents throughout my life and now run a remote company of consultants in the healthcare space, which we started before Covid, so this has been a fun and unique challenge! We have consultants mostly in Latin America and the US, so bringing together our teams has been very special. My horse journey started with my daughter who started riding about 15 years ago as a fun thing and to help her focus. I was the mom who brought her to classes, etc. She eventually trained a small nondescript quarter horse mix to jump started jumping 1 meter. She left horses, but I always had a bug, but didn’t really ride at all because our family was a tennis family and we moved so much! After she went to college, I decided to try my hand at jumping and after a couple of big falls, I gave it up until I heard about dressage. That changed my life and my continued love for horses. It’s been a journey ever since because affording a nice horse is a real commitment and I never thought I could own my own special horse! Then my trainer moved to Mexico about 4 years ago, and we have been on a journey ever since!

What achievement (with horses or not) you most proud of?:

I’m most proud of my beautiful 2 daughters, the horse rider is finishing a PhD and just got married, and the other one is working in our consulting business and we love having her close to us. I am also most proud that I have stuck to riding at my age (I just turned 66), and feel younger now than I did 10 years ago! I am also most proud that we have built a successful consulting business to support all of these fun horse habits!

What challenges have you overcome?:

Because I competed in tennis, I have overcome fear of failure both in business and in horse riding, and have a new perspective to enjoy the journey.

Final Thoughts:

I am so thankful for this program and for the opportunity to meet others. I am learning to find more balance in my life and to be grateful for what I have.
