I keep getting questions about how to influence the trot with your posting so I thought I would do a video! If you have a horse that tends to rush in the trot or one that tends to be lazy, this post is for you! Changing the way you post the trot can effect the horse to have a bigger or a smaller trot. Here’s how!
First of all it is important that you are posting correctly!
Some of the common mistakes that I see in the posting trot are:
- The riders lower legs swing back and forth. In the posting trot, think about rotating around your knee. From the knee down your leg should be stable and the posting comes from the knee up
- Don’t post with your hands – when you are in posting trot, your elbows must bend and straighten so that your hands don’t end up going up and down with your seat
Now that you are posting correctly, the way that you post, can help to regulate the tempo of your horses’ trot:
To slow the tempo- think about slowing down your posting and spending a little more time in the saddle – like you just can’t possibly get out of the saddle any faster.
If you want to speed up the trot, speed up your posting and think about getting out of the saddle even faster. For a lengthening trot, think about staying longer out of the saddle to help get the longer stride.
Let me know. if these tips are helpful!
