This week we have a really fun video for you! In honor of my 30 Days to Sitting Trot Challenge, which is now open for enrollment, my assistant Caine and I are having our own sitting trot challenge! We’ll both be riding Mercurio first in a Dressage saddle, then a jump saddle, and finally bareback. This is the first time in a long while that I’ve ridden bareback so we’ll see how this goes! You get to judge us and decide who you think the winner of the sitting trot challenge is!
As you watch, pay attention to how the rider is sitting the trot. Which one of us is the most connected in our seat, and able to stay balanced and aligned? Also, pay attention to Mercurio and see how he is influenced by different riders in each style of riding. With which rider does he look the most relaxed, forward, and round?
For me, the Dressage saddle is definitely the easiest to ride a nice smooth sitting trot. I really feel like I can keep my seat connected to my horse well in this saddle – but I’m also the most comfortable in a Dressage saddle. Riding in the jump saddle, which I don’t often do, I feel like it takes a lot more leg and abs to stay stable and quiet. And then, riding bareback, wow, it took me a minute to figure out where to sit and I definitely had to focus on using my core to stay stable on the horse’s back! Watch the video where both Caine and I ride in the Dressage saddle, jumping saddle, and then bareback, and explain how each style of riding feels as we ride.
I hope you enjoy this video! I think Caine wins this challenge, but comment below who you think won the sitting trot challenge!
Happy Riding!

P.S. Need help with your sitting trot? It’s not too late to join the Sitting Trot Challenge! Inside this course, I’ll be going over step-by-step how to prepare for and learn to sit the trot. Once you can sit the trot with ease, you’ll be amazed at how much more connected you feel with your horse! Learning to sit the trot opens up a whole new level of communication with your horse!
