Workshops

Suppleness

Suppleness is a fundamental element of dressage training! If your horse feels tense, distracted, stiff, or cannot bend, you need to help your horse become more supple. This workshop includes groundwork and mounted exercises, plus a video lecture that will give you the tools you need.

Rider Position Seat & Legs

If you want to be an effective rider, you HAVE to develop your seat and learn how to properly use your leg. This workshop includes a range of exercises designed to help you connect your seat to the saddle and develop an effective leg, plus a 60-minute lecture on rider seat and legs.

Evasions

Dressage is both physically and mentally demanding for any horse and rider. Because of this, even the most willing horse will find ways to evade the work. Speed & tempo, straightness, and contact & connection are three of the main areas where horses evade as they begin to fatigue or misunderstand aids. It is important to identify and address these evasions quickly so they don’t become habit-forming. This workshop includes a 90-minute recorded lecture plus specific exercises to help you correct evasions when they occur.

Inside Leg to Outside Rein

Learn the aids, the biomechanics and the theory of teaching inside leg to outside rein. Get on the demand video exercises of the best exercises to teach your horse how to develop engagement, balance and responsiveness.

Rider Fitness

To ride well, you need proper alignment, flexibility, strength, and stamina. Since we all have limited time in the saddle, this workshop will really help you to boost your progress and transform your position. All of the exercises in this program are designed specifically for riders and target specific riding muscles.

This workshop is designed to improve your position, get rid of your bad habits, and make you a more quiet and effective rider so that you can feel balanced and secure in the saddle.

The Aids

In this workshop we will be focusing on the Aids. Since we cannot communicate with our horses using spoken words and sentences, we use aids to communicate. "Aids" are basically pressure and relief of pressure and we communicate with our horses through feel. In this workshop we cover the main aids: Legs/Driving, Reins/Restricting, and Seat/Translator.

Half-Halt

Half-halts are an essential part of controlling and balancing your horses’ energy. Without an effective half-halt, you cannot communicate with your horse! With an effective half-halt, you can gather and control your horses’ energy for transitions, turns, lateral movements, and to rebalance your horse onto the hind end. In this workshop, you get a lecture, exercises to develop an effective half-half, and more.

Dressage Rider Mindset

Ever noticed how when you start out your ride with a calm and positive mindset you usually end up having an awesome ride? On the other hand, when you start out your ride anxious, distracted, or upset, your ride really never goes quite the way you had hoped! This workshop includes both unmounted and mounted exercises, and a lecture to help you develop a consistently positive rider mindset.

Lateral Work

Lateral work is really hard for both the horse and rider! For the horse, moving sideways is NOT a natural movement and requires a huge degree of balance and flexibility. The rider must coordinate complex aids to help the horse coordinate the lateral move!

This workshop breaks down lateral work into step-by-step exercises to help you introduce and improve your lateral work.

The Canter

Take your Canter to the next level. For those just starting to canter or those needing a better quality to improve their upper level movements. Transform your understanding of the canter and your approach to riding/training it. We all at times feel frustrated, confused, and like we are not making any progress as we ride circle after circle! This Workshop will give direction and structure to your training with several exercises and theory videos.

Engagement: Strengthen and Engage the Hind End

Struggling to build that 'perfect' neck and back? Or perhaps your horse tires easily and can't do all the things you need him to. This workshop is for you! Engagement: Strengthen and Engage the Hind End is the perfect workshop for those who are interested in building strength, stamina, and power in their horse. Regardless of your level, whether you are new to riding or already competing in dressage, you will get specific step-by-step exercises for you to incorporate into your riding routine to benefit your horse. Plus you’ll learn the theory behind each exercise. Exercises are rated as Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced, so there really is something for everyone!

Leg-Yield

Do you feel like your horse is stiff or resistant during your rides? Or you’ve heard about leg yields but aren’t sure how to ride them?
Leg yields are a really wonderful suppleness exercise that help to loosen your horse in the back and engage the inside hind leg at the same time.
In this workshop, I’ll show you exactly how to teach your horse the leg-yield, including step-by-step video demonstrations and a clear and easy to follow lecture breaking down the mechanics of the leg yield.
Get exercises, lecture, and more!

Rhythm, Tempo, & Stride Length

When you have control over Rhythm, Tempo, and Stride length you are well on your way to training your dressage horse! Being able to control them independently from one another is essential to correct training! Rhythm is the base of the training scale and it is essential that the natural rhythm of the gaits remains unchanged. Tempo and stride length on the other hand, can and should be changed based on what the rider wants! In all 3 gaits you should be able to vary both the tempo and the stride length independent from one another!

How to Have FUN in Dressage.

Do you find yourself getting burnt out from riding? You used to love going to the barn but now it's find the motivation? Your horse has gone a bit sour from all your dedicated training? Or perhaps you have a new horse you just can't seem to connect with? Get back to having FUN with your horse with this dedicated workshop. At the end of the day, we want to have FUN and enjoy riding our horses! That's what it's all about right? In this workshop I give you some fun dressage exercises that involve poles and cones and also some ways that you can bond with and connect with your horse on the ground

Competition and Test Riding

Regardless of what level you are showing, this workshop will give you some tips and exercises that will for sure boost your score!! Competition is a performance. The more that you understand exactly what the judge is looking for and the more that you practice the movements the better you will do! This workshop covers coefficients, the walk, competitive transitions, precision riding and MORE! Even if you are not planning on competing, the tests and the criteria that the judges are looking for is very important to understand and to help you to correctly train your horse! Furthermore, the tests patterns are designed to help guide you in your training.

Straightness

This workshop we are focusing on Straightness! All horses and all riders are crooked so it really is a big challenge to get yourself straight in the saddle and to get your horse straight under you!

Horse & Rider Fitness

You wouldn't go run a marathon without training for it first. The same goes for your horse and you when riding! This workshop covers fitness for both you and your horse. Whether you're just starting out or trying to improve your fitness to move up a level, this is a great workshop for you.

Patterns & Figures Workshop

This workshop focuses on patterns and figures! Dressage is full of figures, patterns, and exercises that we use to train our horses, improve suppleness, and as tools to help them learn what we are asking of them. Much like a gymnast learns skills in a specific series, we can use patterns and figures to help us train our horses. In this workshop, you will learn about some of my favorite figures and how to use them to help your horse.

Horsemanship

To me, Horsemanship is all about understanding how horses learn and think and figuring out how we can better communicate with them both on the ground and in the saddle. This topic is very near and dear to my heart because of my horse, Geronimo. When I was 14, I got Geronimo as a green-broke 4 year old. Within four months, he had developed a terrible rearing problem and was labeled as a "problem horse." Everyone told us to get rid of him. The truth of the matter was that Geronimo wasn't a bad horse, he just didn't understand what we wanted. Geronimo forced me to learn about horsemanship. Rather than showing Dressage and moving up the levels (which is what I wanted to do), I had to go back to the basics and really learn and understand how horses think and learn and how to break things down in a way that Geronimo could understand what I wanted! In the end, he turned out to be an incredible horse. And, I learned so much from him.

Transitions

Transitions are a huge test of the horses' obedience, engagement, connection, and thoroughness! Have you noticed how everything seems to fall apart during transitions? All of your bad habits as a rider and your horses' evasions come up during transitions! For this reason, it is very important to practice and perfect your transitions! Some of the benefits of practicing transitions include developing your horses' top-line, getting the horse stronger behind, developing the contact and connection, and getting your horse more focused and on the aids! If you are struggling with getting seamless and smooth transitions, this workshop is for you! The workshop includes exercises and videos to help with your transitions, a lecture on transitions, and a worksheet for you to print and fill out.

Pelvic Floor Seminar

This Seminar is taught by Stephanie Seheult, DPT. And it covers: -What is the Pelvic Floor exactly? -How does the pelvic floor affect your riding? -Is pain during riding, intercourse, urination normal? -Why do you need to strengthen your pelvic floor? -How to strengthen your pelvic floor. -How to solve tightness in the pelvic floor. -And more!

Thoroughness & Top-line Development

Throughness is the ability for riders to find a soft, willing connection through the horse's whole body to increase rideability and performance. Throughness is essential for the progression of your horse through the dressage levels (and outside of dressage). It promotes self-carriage and back strength leading to healthier sounder horses for a longer, happier partnership. Deepen your understanding of Dressage and how to achieve the ideal topline to allow your horse to perform better with my Throughness and Topline Development Workshop!

The Dressage Aids

Have you ever wondered how the aids should be used? Are you having trouble communicating with your horse? All these questions and more will be addressed inside this workshop! In dressage, the three primary aids are your seat, leg, and hands. Not only are these aids used in dressage; riders from all disciplines use these aids! This workshop will show you exactly how to use the aids, and help you learn to communicate clearly with your horse so that they can understand what you are asking them to do!

Impulsion

Impulsion is a complicated, yet, important element in dressage. Some gaits can have impulsion, and others can’t. Impulsion can even have a different feeling depending on which gait you are riding. Once achieved and understood, however, it is an amazing feeling to ride when your horse has true impulsion. This course is designed to simplify and help you understand exactly how to achieve impulsion! Inside, we will be talking ALL about impulsion, how to achieve it, what it is, and how to adjust your aids depending on if you have a hot or lazy horse. Video lessons will cover all these topics and more!
