My horse won’t go forward!

Have you ever felt stuck…you’re kicking and pulling, doing everything you can to get your horse to go forward and listen? But your horse just gets confused and does the exact opposite of what you ask?

This week, we have a special guest! My husband, Germán! In this video, Germán is teaching a green rider on an experienced horse, and helping her learn how to read her horse’s body language and apply her aids accordingly.

One of the things that Germán talks about is “erasing the chalkboard”. Sometimes we accidentally end up giving our horses too much information. All that kicking, pulling, and clucking just turns into a long, muddled paragraph that our horse can’t understand, and they just get more and more tense and confused. In this situation, just stopping to relax, take off your aids, and reorganize yourself before reapplying a clear aid will help you and your horse!

As a rider, it is important that we are constantly assessing our horse’s body language so that we know how best to communicate with our horse and when we might just need to take a break or “erase the chalkboard”, and try again. This not only helps us stay safe, but also builds our relationship with our horse.

So, without further ado, let’s get into this week’s video! I hope that this lesson excerpt with German helps you and your horse!

Happy Riding!
