Each month, we will be profiling one of our Strides Student Members, so everyone can get to know each other a little! This month, let’s get to know Jodi from Tennessee, USA
How long have you been a member of Strides?
6 months
What’s your favorite part of Strides?
There are so many different topics and so many resources to find help. I also love the video reviews and the Facebook group. Anytime I have any question or comment so many people respond in a positive manner. I know everybody here really wants me to succeed.
How has Strides helped you achieve your goals or work through challenges?
I really wanted to learn Dressage and start going to shows. I had absolutely no idea how to ride dressage but the lessons break it down step-by-step and show exactly what to do. The video reviews are super helpful and everybody is so kind. The Facebook group is a constant source of encouragement.
Tell us more about your horse:
Wild Wesley is a nine-year-old Hanoverian. I found him on Facebook living in a field being a Lawn ornament. I could not afford a horse that already knew Dressage so I took a chance on Wesley. When I got him he actually didn’t steer or stop very well. I have had him almost 5 months and he’s come such a long way. I’m so proud of him. We competed at our first horse show in October and he behaved pretty well.
What’s your goal for the next year?
My goal for next year is to start showing training level and eventually move to first level. I recently started cantering him and he is doing well. I want to keep improving as much as possible. Hopefully I will have more time to be more active in strides. Many times I have to watch the replays because I can’t make the live shows.
What is something unique about you, your journey or your horse?
I galloped race horses for almost 35 years. I loved it. It was seven days a week 52 weeks a year. When I started dressage I had to relearn how to ride. It was so frustrating and I still struggle. It’s mentally very challenging for me to be a beginner again.
Final thoughts. Anything else you wish to share here!
I feel so honored that I was nominated. There are so many good riders in this group and everybody is so nice. It’s a big supportive family.
