Each month, we will be profiling one of our Strides Student Members, so everyone can get to know each other a little! This month, let’s get to know Gina from Maryland, USA
How long have you been a member of Strides?
I have been a member of Strides since March 2021. I joined after taking the Training Scale Master Class!
What’s your favorite part of Strides?
I love everything about Strides!!! Having a specific topic each month has helped me so much with my focus in the saddle. In the beginning I was hesitant to submit a video for Office Hours, but still learned so much from watching other members’ videos. Once I started submitting videos, I learned even more! The lectures are fantastic–so much information!!! The amazing guest speakers are a great bonus too! I also love teaching yoga for Strides. It is so rewarding to teach my fellow riders how much yoga can benefit them in and out of the saddle!!!
How has Strides helped you achieve your goals or work through challenges?
When I joined Strides I was starting to work on First Level and hoped to get my scores towards my Bronze Medal. The support of Amelia’s team helped me to progress and earn my First Level scores in 2023! Challenges started for Casey and I last year with several injuries. I do have to say that the biggest support for me during the time Casey has been injured and in rehab, is the fabulous and supportive community of Strides. There is always someone on FB checking in to see how we are doing and offering support! This community has helped me more than they will ever know!!!
Tell us more about your horse:
Casey is a flea bitten grey, 15.2 hand Warmblood Cross, turning 19 in July. He is the first non “dirt colored” horse I have owned–keeping him clean is a challenge–haha! He came into my life in September 2018. So lucky to have a second heart horse in my lifetime! We have shown through First Level and were schooling Second Level when he was injured last year. Right now he is in rehab for a suspensory ligament injury–tack walking with a little bit of trot just started.
What’s your goal for the next year?
My goal is to successfully get Casey through his rehab. I know that he may not recover fully, but I hope that I can continue to ride and enjoy him, even if it’s just on the trails or with groundwork.
What is something unique about you, your journey or your horse?
You all are the reason that I teach yoga! When I first decided to do a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program, it was just to learn more about yoga for my personal yoga practice. I discovered that I loved teaching and decided I wanted to share my love of yoga with my fellow equestrians!
Final thoughts. Anything else you wish to share here!
I am so glad that I discovered Amelia’s YouTube channel and her programs and Strides way back in 2021! This has definitely influenced my horse (and yoga) journey in a positive way!
